Port Harcourt Book Festival Kicks Off Today

Submitted by admin on 20 October 2014

The Port Harcourt Book Festival (formerly known as the Garden City Literary Festival) is kicking off today! One of African's largest literary festivals, it is organised by the Rainbow Book Club and was first held in 2008. Over the years it has gone from strength to strength, and the 2014 event is particularly special as it takes place while Port Harcourt is the UNESCO World Book Capital.
The theme of the festival this year is "Possibilities for Nigerian at 100". Invited speakers include Bishop Matthew Kukah, Fela Durotoye, Perez Tigidam, Christie Bature Ogbeifun, Ndidi Nwuneli, Chude Judeonwo, and Japheth Omojuwa. The writers who were named on the Africa39 list of influential African authors will also be in attendance, and an anthology of their works (one of our most anticipated books of 2014) will be officially launched at the festival. Writing workshops, a book fair, meet-and-greet sessions with authors and much more are lined up for the event which ends on October 25. It's sure to be an amazing atmosphere for all who attend. Find more details on the Port Harcourt World Book Capital website.
