Comfort Olukogbon Exposes Students to Morality Lessons

The final session of Junior Secondary Reading Programme for this year took place on Wednesday the 12th of November, 2014. It was a reading session among 26 students, aged 10-17 of Government Junior College Ikoyi and Wahab Folawiyo Junior High School in Ikoyi. The selected book for this session was Felicity Learns a Lesson by Valerie Tripp – a renowned historical fiction writer and one of the authors of The American Girl Collection Series .
The guest speaker at this event was Comfort Olukogbon– ZODML staff. Cecilia Odeh of Wahab Folawiyo Junior High School opened the session with a prayer followed by a brief introduction by everyone. In preparation for the event, the students were asked to read the selected book and had written a continuation of the novel. They were eager to discuss the book with the guest speaker. The participants discussed their favourite part of the novel and the speaker in turn read out her favourite parts (page 29 and 41-43) which was morally instructive and hilarious. After this, Nkechi Nkechinyere –ZODML’s Chief Librarian, took the students on a tour of the library. Comfort with the winners; Cecilia Odeh, Comfort Adie and Francis Victor with the overall winner reading her piece Following was the announcement of the five students whose piece were shortlisted from a total of 21 entries; the top three winners read their piece to everyone. Chiagozi – the programme coordinator revealed the winner as selected by the guest speaker. The winners were Cecilia Odeh, Francis Victor and Comfort Adie (first, second and third respectively). Each was rewarded with a writing pad and a pen. In addition,all the participants in the reading programme were presented with a gift, which include a novel from The 27 American Girl Collection Series.The programme ended with a vote of thanks by one of the students –Sheriff Sulaimon of Government Junior College Ikoyi.
