10 Questions With Sola Alamutu

Submitted by admin on 2 April 2014

We continue our Questions series with Sola Alamutu who delighted junior secondary school students at our most recent Reading Programme session. Read on to find out the talents she wishes she had, the political leaders she'd like to share her last meal with, and the last thing she does before going to bed [hint: even though you might not admit it, you probably do it too!]      1. Who are your favourite authors? I do not have favourite authors - I am particular about works. I would say Enid Blyton and Roald Dahl. 2. Who are your three favourite literary characters? Like I said, I like Enid Blyton and Roald Dahl; I like the characters in their works.
3. If you could have any talent in the world (aside from writing), what would you choose? I want to [be able to] fly a plane and ride a motorbike. 4. What’s your favourite literary quote?I live by Psalm 23:
“The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want…”
5. What literary work do you wish you could say you wrote? Me, My Desert and I by Chief Newton Jibunoh. I would have loved to be a part of that work. He visited the Sahara before writing the book. That is something I would have loved to do, to have that first-hand experience to share. 6. If you could invite three figures – historical or literary, real or fictional – to your last supper, who would you pick? [Laughs] What if I say Adolf Hitler? [Laughs] Of course, I am joking. I would say Bill Clinton because he is very brilliant and Nelson Mandela. 7. Who do you consider the funniest person in the world (that we would know)? I don’t know if the young people of this generation will know him but someone I find funny and fascinating is John Cleese in Fawlty Towers. 8. Which historical figure do you most identify with? Martin Luther King Jr: he believed in the freedom of the black people and got people to support his cause without violence. I would also say Gani Fawehinmi. 9. What is your most treasured possession? My most treasured possessions are my books; they are life to me. They contain history, stories of people and home. 10. What is the last thing you do before going to bed? [Laughs] You do not want to know that… I check my Facebook page for any interesting feeds before I go to bed.
