ZODML commences mobile library service to Ikoyi prison.
ZODML staff visited the Muharam Sisters Education Centre (MSEC) in Ikoyi Prison on the 7th of February 2012 to explain how our mobile library service to prisons will work. Staff found the men there, pupils and teachers alike, to all have a strong desire for knowledge and to firmly believe in their right to a better life and a second chance.
Chuko Esiri on NYSC service at ZODML spoke on ZODML’s vision (a Nigeria in which everyone can educate and empower themselves) while Mark Oiseoghaede, Chief Operations Officer, explained the project (taking library services to those unable to visit our library). David Aiyeola, the acting Head of Projects talked about the enduring benefits of self-learning and all assurances were given of ZODML’s commitment to helping that effort. The men (about 20) who are regular students of MSEC were focused and engaged. The service which starts on February 14 at Ikoyi prison is a pilot of sorts and by providing books ranging from novels to advanced text books for those inmates on National Open University of Nigeria courses we hope to help deepen the teaching and learning at MSEC.
