Internet Safety for Kids

We at ZODML believe that every child should be able to freely access electronic resources that will positively shape their development and learning goals. At the same time, we recognise that the internet also contains spaces that are not safe or appropriate for children. Below are tips and resources to help you make informed decisions about how your child uses the internet and other electronic media and devices:

  • Speak to your child regularly about using the internet safely, and about what content is appropriate for their age
  • Research websites your child wishes to use beforehand to gauge their appropriateness and relevance and supervise their first few visits
  • Encourage your child to speak to you about any concerns or worries they have about internet communcations, especially with regards to bullying and requests for personal information or photos
  • Keep financial information confidential and personally check and pay for any online content they may wish to have
  • If your child is old enough to use social media sites, consider limiting the amount of time they spend on them and be sure to share passwords
